Stefán uses Teemill to spread incredible messages of awareness for issues like Climate Change, plastic pollution, and animal abuse. Stefán has created a persona ‘styngvi’ and a community of solutions to tackle these issues. Read below to see how his designs capture messages, how Stefán has overcome struggles on his massive journey and his ambitions for the future.
Gotta say love the designs and dig the message! Why don’t you start by telling us a little more about what you do, a bit about how this is relevant in the world today and what keeps the designs coming!
We at Styngvi design clothing for the change makers, Earth lovers, and lifesavers. With our designs, we want to spread positive messages about veganism and sustainable living. We as a society are at a tipping point where plastic pollution and greenhouse gasses are at a record high.
The goal with our apparel is to plant the movement and raise awareness of these major issues we are facing.
That sounds amazing! Why did you decide to go down the route of creating a store?
It was never the final goal when the Styngvi brand was created. It started off on Instagram as a creative outlet and a way to reach people with our designs. After being approached by countless people who wanted to wear the designs in public we made the decision to open up a store!
What is your plan for marketing, any specific strategies or tactics you’re trying?
The tactic we currently use is to just keep making meaningful and effective designs, post them on Instagram and see the reaction from people. If it does well on Instagram we create T-shirts and tote bags with the design and our follower base supports us!
Awesome! Can you tell us something you’re excited about with this project?
With these designs, we feel like we are spreading positive messages into the world. The situation in the world can seem very overwhelming and pretty much impossible to fix.
With our designs, we hope to be able to create more awareness and plant some seeds so we can create better habits for the future.
It’s clear your store paves the way for spreading the good word, where else do you hope it goes?
Our ambition goes way beyond the store, we want our designs to create more conscious and sustainable thinking for every human being! We have to start one step at a time so we are very happy to be able to work with a company such as Teemill which shares our same values.
We love a good campaign! How did you approach this project in terms of your values, what you want to get out of it and what you’re looking to achieve?
The ultimate goal is to get people to break out of consumer habits that are not sustainable for the planet by spreading good vibes and simple but powerful designs.
Out of the many rad products in the store, which product are you most excited about and why?
For us, T-shirts and tote bags are the most powerful so we always put our designs on those. There is not just one design that we can choose from, they all tell a different important message!
What advice would you give someone in a similar position trying to spread a message of their own, how do they get started?
Our recommendation would be to get started on social media, create content and build up a small community of followers and supporters. When you finally decide to open up a store to get your message out there these guys will have your back!
Was there any part of it that’s been tricky and how did you overcome it?
The trickiest part was to figure out how to get started with selling our designs on apparel. We looked at a lot of other apparel services that didn’t require us to buy a whole stock but their values didn’t align with ours.
Thanks to Teemill we were able to offer our designs on ethically produced garments and we did not have to invest a lot of money in the beginning.
